ELK CAMP 97

We had a good trip this year, but the weather was too damn good!

The Bulls were still way up in the mountains, but the Bucks still came out to play! Looking at the size of this animal, I was surprised the rack didn't have more branches!

(350 yards with no pod. 7mm Rem Mag)

The blue sky and sun did make for some great riding weather for Mike (R), Kurt (L) and myself!

Here is a shot of Kurt & Rusty. We changed Rusty's name to Dusty because it was more "Cowboy-like"!

You would have never known that Dusty was a "Flatlander". He rode up from camp (the little speck at the bottom of the canyon) and back down again in pitch dark, no moon, on slippery mud and loose shale. And this was on a horse he never rode before. He did this all to check on Mike whose horse came into camp without Mike.

(He did come back to camp with a pressing need to clean out his shorts though!)

We finally got some snow the last day we hunted. Too bad we had to break camp the next day. As it turned out, we spent the next day (and night) in Hayden, mostly at the Hiway Bar. All the snow was melting in the mountains but the "Blizzard-of 97" hit Denver keeping us snowed out.

We could have hunted another day!

Here I am with my good friends, (and fellow successful hunters) Kurt and Sarah. Sarah harvested her first elk this year bringing home a very nice cow. Kurt missed a bull (I knew he was human). He did bring home a huge doe.

Looking back, we had a great camp this year. We wish we could have seen more Bulls and Bucks but we are greatful for the blessings the Spirits have given us. The fellowship we shared bonded our friendships even closer. The beauty and majesty of Nature humbled us, and remindes us of how great God is. I can only count the days until next years elk camp!
